This month it’s time to say ‘Happy Birthday’ to Formation Games! 🎂
Can you believe it’s already been TWO years since we kicked off this bold new venture together!?
Let’s celebrate and recap an epic year of progress towards our shared vision of a revolutionary free-to-play football ownership game…
Building our dream team
It takes a stellar team to execute a vision as big as ours. We’ve been almost as busy as Chelsea in the transfer market over the last year, adding 11 new superstar players to bring our roster up to 24.
We’ve brought on some incredible expertise, with our new team members having experience across some familiar names including Epic Games, Space Ape, Sports Interactive, Sony, Channel 4 and the FA.
Our latest arrival is Michael Quacinella, our new Business Performance Lead, who brings a wealth of Free-to-Play mobile game expertise from his roles at Wargaming, Gree, and Carry1st. As a true Italian, he has some unwavering coffee rules (cappuccino at lunch? Never!) and is an avid Juventus F.C. fan.
Adding 11 fresh signings has given us the capacity and expertise we needed to realise our vision — a genre-shattering free-to-play football ownership game on mobile.
Laying our foundations
A year ago, we ran our ‘Season Zero’ test. This was a chance to check the playing scoring engine on a very basic version of the game. Over 1,000 of you took part in that test and gave us your feedback — thank you. 🙏
We’ve taken everything we learned, said goodbye to our previous build partners, and have spent the best part of this year crafting a completely new foundation to the game, in-house, at record speed.
And get this — our tech team has already written over 74,000 lines of code across 869 files! 😮
Size isn’t everything of course — it’s the quality that matters most, and early feedback from our advisors confirms we’ve nailed that too. We’re well on the way to realising our ambitions (as you’ll soon find out if you’re on the list to be one of our early testers!)

As well as our Founding COs, we’ve got a whole community of wannabe COs inc. 40,000+ pre-registers and a passionate social following. Our TikTok channel topped 200,000 followers this year with our most-watched video organically hitting 5.7million views! 👀
To help inspire some of your ownership decisions in CLUB, we’ve lifted the curtain on club ownership through our Meet the Clubs series. We visited AFC Wimbledon and Lewes FC earlier this year and have Hashtag United, Worthing FC, Darlington and FC United of Manchester for you to enjoy in the coming weeks, each with their own unique story to tell. Look out for those appearing on our social channels soon! 👍
Working in partnership
We’ve strengthened relationships across the business this year, from deepening our connections with charities like Her Game Too and Games Forest Club, to bringing on board an all-star team of advisors to help us with the development of the game. And we raised some additional capital along the way, which has validated our belief that we’re on the right track.
We also sponsored our very first football club, Newcastle Independent FC, who went on to lift a trophy with ‘CLUB’ proudly emblazoned across their chests! The ink has just dried on a sponsorship agreement with a new football club too… but we’ll save this announcement for next time. 🤫
